Central Ohio rich with worthy candidates for Statehouse

Central Ohio residents have many important choices to make among the candidates who will represent them in the General Assembly. The Dispatch recommends these:

Senate District 16: Republican state Rep. Stephanie L. Kunze is seeking to switch to this seat currently held by term-limited Jim Hughes. She is committed to family issues, such as barring sales of e-cigarettes to children, requiring parental consent before controlled substances are prescribed to children, supporting suicide prevention programs, strengthening domestic-violence laws and curbing infant mortality. COLUMBUS - Senate President Keith Faber (R-Celina) and State Senator Shannon Jones (R-Springboro) met today with central Ohio medical and community leaders as part of their ongoing work to combat the infant mortality crisis in Ohio.

Journal News - Ohio agency makes recommendation on infant mortality rates

March 31, 2016 - The 15-member Ohio Commission on Infant Mortality — led by a local lawmaker — has released its final report on how local social services agencies and others around the state should combat infant deaths.

Last year the General Assembly passed Senate Bill 276, which established the commission to study the issue. After a series of fact-finding sessions and public hearings, the commission released its recommendations this week. READ MORE

Dispatch - Bill extending time limit on rape prosecutions on way to governor

July 15, 2015 - Ohio rape victims would get several additional years to seek prosecution of their attacker under a measure approved unanimously by the Ohio House on Tuesday and sent to the governor.

The legislation would increase the period allowed for prosecution of rape or sexual battery from 20 to 25 years. When DNA is used to match a rapist with his victim after the 25-year period has expired, another five years would be granted for prosecution. READ MORE

COLUMBUS - The Republican Senate Campaign Committee announced today its official endorsement of State Representative Stephanie Kunze (R-Hilliard) for Ohio’s 16th Senate District seat.

Senate President Keith Faber and Senator Dave Burke, chair of the eight-member campaign committee, said the endorsement followed weeks of internal analysis and discussion of the 2016 contest and its potential candidates.

Kunze lives in Hilliard with her husband and two daughters.
